Choices = Destiny 1.1

This last Sunday, Pastor Herk stated in his sermon message that we have so many people with problems in their lives which blame their circumstances on everything except the choices that they make. We can be slow to admit that we are responsible for some of the troubles that we have by the choices that got us to that point. We make all kinds of choices every day, all day long. Some of those choices have a lasting affect on our destiny. And sometimes there are consequences when we make a wrong choice.

We should start the new year by discovering God’s purpose in our life. We want to finish this race, called “our life journey on earth”, strong, even with the difficulties long the way. It’s not a matter of if, but when. So, where should our focus be? Answer: On our blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Can we trust Him? Totally! May we always be steadfast in our faith and focus on Jesus. In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus tells us that, “everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

Jesus is talking about our life built on Him, His teachings and commands. Everything that is built upon the sand (anything other than Jesus Christ) will crumble and fall. We need to be careful in our choices. We need to have an organized plan for what we are going to do with our time each day. Each time we make simple choices, we may not realize it, but we are likely to be taking another step in fulfilling God’s destiny for our life. What we decide and do during the day are either going to help us mature in the faith or they are going to erode the foundations of our beliefs. Our Creator Father God gave us free will to think and choose our destiny. He knows the choices that He wants us to make and sometimes we make them; sometimes we don’t.

Sometimes, we make choices because they are convenient. We don’t think about praying about the choice or check in the Word of God, because it is the easy way to go. Yet, those convenient choices can come back to bite us further down the road. Many times, our choices are not aligned with God’s will. Being familiar with God’s Word in the Holy Bible will help us in making our decisions. If we have the truth of God’s Word in our hearts because we have been in God’s Word though devotional reading and study, we tend to make better choices. Can you truth what God says? Always. Is His Word ever wrong? Never. Has He kept His promises? Faithfully.

Some people take the Bible and use it like a menu, choosing what they like, what they want and what they are going to do. To them, it doesn’t matter what God want, but what they want. That’s a choice; a wrong choice. Having the full truth of God’s Word in our heart will help guide our choices and down the road in our ultimate destiny. Blessings that we receive can be taken away. We are responsible for our choices. To receive those blessings of God, we need to serve God faithfully and be obedient to the Lord’s Word, Will and Way.

Joshua 24:14-15 “Now, therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and do away with the gods which your fathers served beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served, which were beyond the Euphrates River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Let's continue Pastor Herk's message on our choices in the next post.

In Christ, Brian
