Is God Waiting for Our Prayer? - Part 1

Romans 12:10-12 “Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer.”

A couple of Sundays ago, Pastor Herk broadcasted his sermon from his house due to the devastating Creek Fire in Central California. He stated that As Christians, we are supposed to be communicating with our Heavenly Father in prayer and time spend with Him. But, the question is: Do we make God wait for our prayer? There are things that crop up and pop up in our lives that we need to be praying about and for. Sometimes, those things grab our attention and distract us, make us too busy and take us away from our prayer time, so be careful. We need to ask God to speak to us, to move in us, and to bless us. With the untimely, unfortunate and life-altering. Event of the year, all of our prayers have tripled.

What is there to stop us from praying? We can pray just about any time and in any place. A faithful prayer life is an essential command for each one of us. In good times and in bad times, we are to be speaking to God and draw nearer to Him daily. Making the effort of come today and read this message means that you are wanting to draw nearer to God, but we all need a personal relationship with God in prayer also. There is power in prayer and prayer changes things.

Things seem almost out of control in our nation and world. How much time have you spend with God in prayer these days? Is He still waiting to hear what is on your heart and on your mind? Our almighty omniscient God knows what in our heart, but wants to see how faithful we are to come to Him and draw closer in deep relationship. We have to trust Him, serve Him and if we want to learn more about Him, we need to draw near in prayer. We need to regularly prayer and fill our minds and hearts with God’s Word.

We read the Bible but do not understand everything that we read. It takes study and prayer to understand what the Scriptures are saying spiritually to us. They are words that bring encouragement, words that bring comfort and words that bring assurance that we love to read. There are days when it is easy to walk in the plans and purposes of God and other days we struggle to focus. How often do you think about the things of God? There are plenty of thing out there in the world that are trying to distract us and pull us away from our devoted time with the Lord. How much time this week have you spent reading the Bible? How much distracted time have you spend on the breaking news of the day? We need to make sure that we are not running on empty and putting God front and center in our daily lives.

Following Christ as a true disciple is a daily journey that we need to be on; advancing and constantly moving forward as we trust and serve Him. We need to know more about Him each and every day, thinking about the things of God and aligning our thoughts, will and emotions with His perfect Word, Will and Way. God’s love helps us overcome the fear of the known and unknown in the world around us.

1 John 4:10-17 “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.”

Let's continue PAstor Herk's message on prayer in the next post.

In Christ, Brian
