Doubt about God

Psalm 53:1-3 “The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good. God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Every one of them has turned aside; they have together become corrupt; there is none who does good, no, not one.”

The Late Pastor Kennedy stated that doubt is the acid of the soul; that which corrodes our hopes, destroys our assurance and banishes our joy. It is certainly a painful thing to lack a belief in God. Though it is true that the vast majority of people do, and have always believed in God, in spite of over a century of intense efforts to dissuade people and convince them that there is no God. Of course, these purveyors of doubt have to deal with a great deal of evidence. Psalm 19:1-3 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmamentshows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.” And so people just naturally look around them, see this world and conclude that there must be a Creator God.

It takes very sophisticated and subtle philosophical or scientific reasoning to convince people that God does not exist. But, of course there are atheist that are very open, volatile and strongly stating their views. They do not have the evidence to prove that God does not exist, but they so strongly suspect that He does not that they do not want to waste their time to prove it. No one can prove atheism (the belief in no God) because atheism is a universal negative. One of the natural laws is that you cannot prove a universal negative. To attempt to do what is impossible is folly.

Romans 1:18-22 “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.”

This KJV speaks to those who hold the truth in unrighteousness, but in the Greek text it is those who hold down or suppress the truth in unrighteousness. And such are atheists. They say that there is not enough evidence. People have been deceived and misled into believing that there is no God, though that is unprovable and all of the evidence points the other way. There is plenty of evidence. There was evidence enough to convince the greatest Scientist that ever lived, including all of the founders of Science and all of the basic scientific disciplines. There is enough historical evidence to convince the greatest Historians. There is Anthropological evidence, Teleological evidence, Cosmological evidence, Oncological, Biblical evidence and Biographical evidence enough to convince millions and millions of brilliant men and women that God does exist. There is no more possible evidence that could be needed.

The problem is in the heart of man that he just doesn’t want to humble himself before God and obey His Commandments. The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity (a particular deviation from rectitude; a sin or crime; wickedness). I’d like you to make a scientific experiment in the laboratory of your own soul. You can know that there is a God, you can be delivered of any of your doubts as you meet God face-to-face in your own soul and receive the blessed assurance that only He can give. That you are created, His creator within His creation and that in Jesus Christ you can have eternal life.

Friend, when you come to realize that Jesus Christ is God incarnate (God with skin on) walking on this earth, When you can to realize that He came into this world out of His infinite love for you, that He left His home in Heaven and was born into the filth of a stable because of His concern for us, When you see Him hanging upon a Cross in agony and knowing that it is only His love that is keeping Him there, when you see and realize that He was willing to take you just as you are, to receive you and adopt you into His family, to cleanse you of all unrighteousness and make you purer than snow. When you ralize that He is willing to freely forgive you and give you eternal life as a free gift … when you come to see that love and invite Him to come into your heart, then you will know beyond any doubt that God utterly exists, came and visited this planet and now lives in your heart and doubt will be forever gone.

In Christ, Brian
