Opposing Ten Commandments

Exodus 20:3-17 “You shall have no other gods before Me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. 12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you. 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

The Devil mirrors everything God does, but, like a mirror, is an opposite image. Here is a list of Satan’s 10 commandments.

1. You shall have no God, but yourself.

There is a God, One God, and it is not you. Almighty Creator God is the sovereign Lord of all.

In Genesis 3:5b Satan lied and said, “you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

2. You shall make idols.

Satan wants us to make idols between God’s face and ours for worship. Anything that holds a higher place of importance in our lives is an idol. Psalm 96:5 “For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens.”

3. You shall blasphemy the name of God.

To take God’s name in vain is to use it in an empty or meaningless way. Honor and glorify God.

Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”

4. You shall have no resting day.

The Devil bring strong delusions and distractions, wanting all mankind to have no resting day at all. Psalm 39:6 “Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, and does not know who will gather them. Rest, rejuvenate, worship.

5. You must dishonor and rebel against your father and mother.

This pertains to both your earthly father and your heavenly Father. But, God designed and created the family, which is the foundation of society. Children are naturally subordinate to their parent’s authority, which mirrors their being children of God in the family of Heaven.

6. You must always murder and hate your neighbor.

Matthew 5:21-22 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.

Satan is the chief murderer and he wants all his followers to murder always. John 8:44 “You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Love, not hate. Protect and defend life, not murder.

7. You must always commit adultery and have a lustful heart. Satan says, “Have sex with whoever you want, whenever you want and wherever you want.” Christ reminds us in Matthew 5:27-28 (“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”) that the marriage relationship must be guarded diligently. Fidelity = faithfulness.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

8. You shall always steal. See it, want it, take it. You deserve it.

Theft is forbidden by God. Instead, we are to be content with what we have and trust God to supply all our need in Christ Jesus. Do not be a thief. It’s not yours.

John 10:10 “The thief [Satan] does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

9. You shall always bear false witness and make false accusations. The devil says, “lie to get what you want.” But, honesty is always the best policy. Satan deceives the world through "misinformation." But, speak the truth in love.

Proverbs 12:22  Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.”

Matthew 15:19 “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.”

10. You shall always live a covetous life. Want to your heart’s desire and never be satisfied until you get it. Want it all and want it now.

Galatians 5:17 “For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to the Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict].”

Live within your means. Be content with what you have.

James 4:2-3 “You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your lust goes unfulfilled; so you murder. You are envious and cannot obtain [the object of your envy]; so you fight and battle. You do not have because you do not ask [it of God]. You ask [God for something] and do not receive it, because you ask with wrong motives [out of selfishness or with an unrighteous agenda], so that [when you get what you want] you may spend it on your [hedonistic] desires.”

1 Timothy 6:6 “Godliness actually is a source of great gain when accompanied by contentment [that contentment which comes from a sense of inner confidence based on the sufficiency of God].” Be satisfied.

God's Commandments are life and in Christ we have eternal life in Heaven. In God We Trust.

In Christ, Brian
