The Receiving of the Holy Spirit – Part 2

Nehemiah 9:20 “You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them.”

Continuing Pastor Herk's message, he points out that having established the Scriptural basis of what was happening, the Apostle Peter utilize  and exemplify the very gift that was being given, interpreting the prophecy of Joel as referring to the New Covenant and people being changed by the Holy Spirit, in contrast to the former days of the Old Covenant. What Joel said in His prophecy was what God said to us all. A change, in that God would sent and pour out the Holy Spirit for all Believers with no distinction of race, sex, age or rank because the Kingdom of the Messiah is purely spiritual. There is great power in a God-given dream, so we need to let the Holy Spirit fulfill that living dream that is within you. Are you “living the dream”?

Numbers 11:29 “Oh, that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the Lord would put His Spirit upon them!”

Acts 2:19-20 saying, “I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord.” Signs and wonders to be revealed before the Day of the Lord comes. The prophetic call to response in Acts 2:21 stating, “And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

An invitation proclaimed was the third portion of Peter’s message. In Acts 2:36-40 Peter proclaims, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” The new age and era of the church has begun. Clearly established, because of the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ is offered, available and can be obtained to all who repent and believe by the grace of God alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Acts 2:40-44 states, And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common.” This was a dramatic outpouring of God’s Spirit.

Acts 2:46-47 tells us, “So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” Since that day, Believers have called all who will listen to the Savior, God’s Messiah. And those who do find eternal spiritual life, find it through His name.

In Christ, Brian
