Holy Saturday

Matthew 12:40 “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.”

Holy Saturday, also known as Great and Holy Saturday, the Great Sabbath, Hallelujah Saturday, Saturday of the Glory, and Black Saturday or Easter Eve, and called "Joyous Saturday", "the Saturday of Light", is the final day of Holy Week, between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, when Christians prepare for the latter. Graves are decorated with flowers during the day of Holy Saturday and the celebration of the sunrise service starts before dawn on Easter Sunday.

1 Peter 4:6 “For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.” The day commemorates the Harrowing of Hell while Jesus Christ's body lay in the tomb; "Christ in Limbo" and "Descent into Hell". In triumphant descent, Christ brought salvation to the souls held captive there since the beginning of the world.

Ephesians 4:4-10 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, ho is above all, and through all, and in you all. But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.” (Now this, “He ascended”—what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.). The Plan of Salvation is about to reach it's climatic and glorious finale in Resurrection Sunday.

Praise the Lord,

In Christ, Brian
