Dangerous Prayers – Part 3

Psalm 119:11 “I have treasured Your Word in my heart, so that I may not sin against You.”

In the spiritual realm, we need a lifelong commitment to dedicated Biblical training, to devoted Christian work, to faithful allegiance, and loyal obedience to God’s Word, Will and Way. Our “daily bread” must be the Word of God, not the things of this world. The Word of God found in the Holy Scriptures of the Bible nourishes us, sustains us, strengthens us, and we cannot fully function without it. To build a godly life, the Word of God is foundational to true disciples of Jesus Christ every single day. Do you start your day with prayer? Do you start your day with reading the living Word of God? How much time do you spend reading your Holy Bible and meditating what your read? Answer: Not enough.

Have you ever read the entire Bible, cover to cover? Only one in five Americans have. Yet, from the Holy Scriptures we can draw comfort always, strength in times of temptation, testing and trial in this world. Psalm 119:103-105 “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through Your precepts I get understanding; therefore, I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Long for, learn, know, understand and treasure God’s Word in your heart for supernatural guidance in life and to live out His Word in obedience in righteousness. Hate every false way. We need to know and walk in God’s word, walking in the Spirit. We all need to be stretched beyond our comfort zones, beyond our borders to where the Lord calls us to go, work and serve, living in God’s Word with God’s heart, bring glory to the kingdom of Heaven and honor to the name of God.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

The fourth dangerous prayer is “Lead me”. Ask God to take our life and use us for His designed purposes. You have to believe that God’s plans for you are better than the plans that you have for yourself. In Jeremiah 29:11-13 God says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Are you willing to surrender your plans for His perfect plans and allow God to perfectly lead us? When we ask our sovereign and omnipotent God to lead us, He will ultimately lead us to Himself on paths of righteousness. In every trouble and trial, when we pray for guidance, the Holy Spirit is going to lead us to the presence of Almighty God.

Pray Psalm 25:5, “Lead me in your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation. For you I wait all the day.” Be led by the One that saved you. Be willing to humble yourself in the presence of the Creator of Heaven and the Cosmos in which you exist. Be willing to serve others in the good works of God. Be willing to be led sacrificially. Be willing to obey the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations and advance the kingdom of Jesus Christ. When we pray “God, lead me”, we are acknowledging that His way is the true way, the right way and the perfect way for our life, so that His truth may flow though us for the straight and abundant life, bringing God honor & glory. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Galatians 5:16-25 “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft [drug abuse]; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”

Let's conclude Pastor Herk's timely message on dangerous Christian living in the next post.

In Christ, Brian
