A Year in the Life

In Genesis 1:14-19 God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.”

In the Creation account in Genesis, God created the Cosmos (time, space, and matter), including the earth with water, and light to distinguish day from the darkness He called night. On the fourth day, God created stars, galaxies, constellations, our Moon and our Sun (for the earth to rotate around) to light and warm the planet perfectly for life and distinguishing seasons, days and years. I encourage you to watch the video titled “The Privileged Planet” to learn all the astronomically impossible natural combination of evidenced things that had to be in place at the same time for life to exist on earth, but supernaturally possible by special Divine Intelligent Design of an almighty Creator God.

In Genesis 1:26-31 God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so. God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. The earth is anthropomorphic, being designed for biological life and human discovery and growth for the glory of God.

Yet honestly, the original sin of doubting God that lead to the “Fall of Man” and bought decay and death into existence. Psalm 19:1-3 states, “The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night reveals knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard.” But the darkness of sin fostered unbelief in God and rejection of God’s authority. But God's over-arching story is about light and life for those 'created in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them'.

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) states that the true length of a year on Earth is 365.2422 days, or about 365.25 days. We keep our calendar in sync with the seasons by having most years 365 days long but making just under 1/4 of all years 366-day "leap" years. We are quickly coming to an end of another full 365 day rotation of the earth around the sun, ending one year (2022 A.D.) and beginning another (2023 A.D. – an abbreviation for the Latin words “annō Dominī”, literally meaning “in the year of the Lord”; since Christ was born. All time and history of the years are divided and counted by the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s gift to the world by His grace, the Savior of the world and Lord of all.

Romans 1:18-25 “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse. Amen. Praise our creator Father God from whom all blessings flow. Thank God for another year and for the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

Happy New Year, Brian
