A Joyful Noise - Part 3

Ephesians 5:18b-21 “Be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Pastor Herk continues that there is one main act that takes place from the moment that we enter through the Sanctuary door on Sunday until the Service ends and we exit through those Sanctuary doors; that is all a part of Worship. In Romans 11:33-12:1-2 the Apostle Paul states “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor? Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

Psalm 59:17 “O my Strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my fortress,

the God who shows me steadfast love.”

The word “worship” is defined as to (literally or figuratively) prostrate oneself in homage (do reverence to, adore).Chiefly and eminently, worship is the act of paying divine honors to the Supreme Being; or the reverence and homage paid to our heavenly Father in religious exercises, consisting in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, adoration, confession, prayer, thanksgiving and the like. John 4:24 tells us that “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” The regenerated spirit within the born-again Believer has direct access to their Creator God in spiritual connection. The worship of Almighty God in all of the worship service elements (singing, prayer, the message) in adoration and reverence are an eminent part of religion. Do not take any part of the corporate Sunday worship service of Believers lightly.

The fourth kind of music that is pleasing to God is (4) composition that has both a horizontal and vertical aspect. Addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs is the horizontal aspect. The people of God gather together as the body of Christ, collectively worshipping united in song, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; which is the vertical aspect because God is our audience of One. Psalm 7:17 “I will give to the Lord the thanks due to his righteousness, and I will sing praise to the name of the Lord, the Most High.”

Psalm 100:1-3 says, “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.” Make a joyful noise unto the Lord. May your spirit sing and your soul rejoice.

In Christ, Brian
