Psalm 119:160 “The entirety of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”

Truth is defined in the 1828 Webster’s Dictionary as: 1. Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be. 2. True state of facts or things. 3. Conformity of words to thoughts, which is called moral truth. 4. Veracity; purity from falsehood; practice of speaking truth; habitual disposition to speak truth. 5. Correct opinion. 6. Fidelity; constancy.  7. Honesty; virtue. 8. Exactness; conformity to rule. 9. Real fact of just principle; real state of things. 10. Sincerity. God is a spirit, and they that worship him must worship in spirit and in truth. (John 4) 11. The truth of God and His holy Word. 12. Jesus Christ is called the truth.

Look at each of these definitions individually. Truth is fact and reality, a heart attitude that lead to virtuous thoughts, words and actions born from the model prototype which is the truth of God, His Word and Jesus Christ by which all truth is measured and compared to. John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” Life is conformity and alignment to rule, and that rule is God’s holy Word, Will and Way unto godly, virtuous, right living. The Creator of the heavens and the earth reigns and rules His creation and creatures, therefore His word is truth and he are sanctified by it.

In John 18:37-38 Jesus said, “For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” The Roman Governor Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?” On our own, human beings (you and I) determine truth based upon worldly secular social likes and constructs or self, which can lead to “false” truth. Your and my truth Thought up by ourselves and not grounded in the Word of God) may be wrong in the eyes of the Lord and could lead to bad decisions or actions. There are so many sly deceptions, sensual distractions, ungodly reinterpretations and egocentric intentions that lead people to think: “What is truth?”

Jesus tells us exactly what truth is in John 14:6 telling us, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. The Lord explains the way to living in truth in John 8:31-33, when Jesus said to those who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Believe, receive and cleave to Jesus for in Him we find true truth for our lives.

In Christ, Brian
