The Island of Peace

Winter landscape, Yellowstone N.P.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

All seek peace in life and mind. Peace is not guaranteed on this side of eternity. They say, “Life in the jungle is no bowl full of cherries”. Trouble is defined as agitation; to put into confused motion. 2. Disturbed; perplexed. 3. Afflicted; grieved; distressed. 4. Busy; to cause to be much engaged or anxious. 5. Tease; molested. And includes alarm, anguish, anxiety, anxiousness, apprehension, battle, combat, conflict, contention, discord, dissidence, fighting, strife, trouble, tumult, turmoil, uneasiness, unrest, upheaval, vexation, warfare, and worry. Everything that we want to avoid in our lives ... yet unavoidable. In John 16:33 , Jesus told us, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Peace is defined as: 1. In a general sense, a state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; applicable to society, to individuals, or to the temper of the mind. 2. Freedom from war with a foreign nation; public quiet. 3. Freedom from internal commotion or civil war. 4. Freedom from private quarrels, suits or disturbance. 5. Freedom from agitation or disturbance by the passions, as from fear, terror, anger, anxiety or the like; quietness of mind; tranquility; calmness; quiet of conscience. 6. Heavenly rest; the happiness of heaven. 7. Harmony; concord; a state of reconciliation between parties at variance. 8. Public tranquility; that quiet, order and security which is guaranteed by the laws; as, Peace Officer to keep the peace; Justice of the Peace.

Psalm 4:8 “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 29:11 “The Lord gives strength to his people; the Lord blesses his people with peace.”

Isaiah 26:2-4 “Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.”

Colossians 1:19-22 “For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior (true trouble) But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation (true peace).

Know where true peace comes from ... the Prince of Peace, the island of peace, Jesus Christ.  Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Peace be with you.

In Christ, Brian
