Jesus in John 14 said, “when
I'm gone, the Holy Spirit shall come and will reveal to you the truth of the
Word that I have taught you.” Jesus offended the religious leaders of his
day. They said that he was a preacher of "fake news." He
was arrested and crucified because the religious leaders thought that he
propagated lies. The truth of the Word of God that Jesus taught was
contrary to their perverted interpretation of Holy Scripture.
Luke 18:1-8 Then
He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose
heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear
God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to
him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for
a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor
regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her,
lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ” Then the Lord said, “Hear
what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect
who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell
you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man
comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
The main question of this
parable is: "Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith
on the earth?” In this parable in Luke 18, the persistent widow continues
asking the unjust judge to grant her petition for righteous judgment. The
context of this parable is that believers ought at all times to pray and not
lose heart. The lesson is that God will bring about justice quickly.
Although we often wonder when God's justice will prevail, in light of God's
eternal perspective, He will speedily avenge those who deserve justice. A
thousand years is only a moment in God's eternal perspective. As the song says,
when we've been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, we've no
less years to sing God's praise than when we just begun. There is no time
in eternity. When that which is perfect is come at Christ's return, we shall
know in a moment of time, even also as we are known of Him.
A powerful image of the
Armenian genocide one hundred years ago shows crosses lined up on the
horizon. This famous photograph depicts Armenian women who were raped,
then tortured and crucified naked because they would not denounce their Lord
Jesus Christ. These women who died as Christian martyrs were living at the
time in what is now eastern Turkey. Today the Turks refuse to acknowledge
that their ancestors perpetrated this crime. However, many Armenian Christians
survived the genocide. They walked out of their homeland and held fast to
their profession of faith in their Lord Jesus Christ.
Let's continue Michael's message about faith in Jesus Chris in the next post.
In Christ, Brian
