The Death of Death

In Genesis 2:16-17, in the garden of Eden, the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Some time after this commandment, the serpent (identified in Revelation 12:9 as “that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world”) tempted Eve to doubt God, eat the forbidden fruit and also gave to Adam bringing sin and death into the world. Doubting and disobeying God was the original sin which is nonmaterial and doesn’t need to pass along to offspring via genetics. It is passed along spiritually by virtue that all are descendants of Adam. Everyone is born spiritually dead because the wages of sin is death. In the day that they ate of it, their spirit and associated connection to their Creator, followed by the eventual physical death of our bodies. As Ephesians 2:1-2 says. “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.” Bottomline; because of sin, Romans 3:10 declares: “There is none righteous, no, not one;

Romans 5:12-14 goes on to say, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—to be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law. Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam. One might say, “I do not think it is fair that Adam’s sin was passed down to all flesh.” Let’s be realistic, how many of God’s commandments and Laws do you break regularly and how many sins do you commit weekly, monthly and annually? James 2:10 explains, “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

But Good News, by the grace of God, He designed, instituted and employed His Plan of Salvation for all sinners; death entered the world and death will leave for those that believe. Our loving heavenly Father did not have to plan and provide a Way for redemption and forgiveness, restoration and eternal life. But, He did and anyone who confesses their sin, repents of them all, believes God in their heart and receives Christ as their personal Savior by faith and obediently follows Him as Lord will saved. John 1:16-17 “Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 1:8b-10 “God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” In Revelation 20:14-15, Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.Have faith, believe and receive Christ, follow the Lord and escape the second death with death itself in Hell.

The final scene in heaven is the death of death in Revelation 21:3-4 where the Apostle John heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”

Be a Born-again Believer; the old is gone and all things are new.

In Christ, Brian
