Land of Liberty - Part 2

2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

Continuing Pastor Herk patriotic Christian message, he points out that, today, there is an ongoing discussion as the whether America was founded on Christian principles. The truth of the matter is that this is a nation that was shaped by the Judeo-Christian ethic found throughout the Bible and a Biblical Christian nation from its roots. The Christian faith was involved in every aspect of America’s begins. Christopher Columbus stated that he was “led by the Holy Spirit to carry the Gospel of Jesus Christ to undiscovered lands”. The Pilgrims landed in America on the Mayflower and wrote a Compact that stated, “In the name of God, Amen. Having undertaking for the glory of God and advancement of the Christian faith do solemnly and mutually in the presence of Almighty God, convenient and combine ourselves together.” The New England Confederation Constitution of 1643 read, “We all came into these parts with one and the same end and aim, namely to advance the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ and enjoy the liberties of the gospel in purity and peace.” How could anyone believe that God and Christianity was not involved in the formation of this country? History records that America was founded by men and women that acknowledged God’s supreme rule over this country and lived under the Laws of God. This is evident in the preambles of every state in America.

Isaiah 33:22 “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; He will save us.”

The here branches of government (Judicial, Legislative and Executive) were created from the Bible verse above. Universities were established for the purpose of educating future ministers and clergy for the new and growing nation. The first school book in the United States was the New England Primer, which a based upon the Bible. God is the supreme ruler over man and government. Thomas Jefferson’s letter to the Danbury Baptist church ensured them that there was a wall established between church and state in order to keep the government out of church’s free exercise of religion, but the principles of Christianity were to always be a critical guide for government. The First Amendment was to protect the churches from Government intrusion and interference. Do we want America to return, restore and revival this one nation under God, the same as it captivated the hearts of our Founding Fathers?

Proverbs 14:34 “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.”

The Christian church has been in a slumber. There was a time, not so long ago, that the majority of Americans were Christians, and those who were not had a healthy respect for the Bible and God. In a post-Christiaan secular society, you do not feel the presence of God. Like the city of Sardis, Revelation 3:1-3 tells us, “I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead. Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God. So, remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore, if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you. The Christian church has failed to bring people closer to God and succeeded in lading secular society away from got by not obeying the Great Commission of Jesus and God’s Cultural Mandate. Pastors are afraid the truth and that sin is sin. They won’t say it. They want fill the church and people to walk out feeling happy and good about themselves. We need to wake up, and then lift up prayers for our nation and the people of this country. How long will God intervene for this country? How long can we depend upon God’s protection?

James 1:25 “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”

How can we asked for God’s blessing and protection when we demand that He leave us alone?! God’s holy Word is so clear in 2 Chronicles 7:14 “ If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” The health of our nation does not depend upon which party in in power, who is in the White House, who is in the Statehouse, or who is in the Courthouse; it depends upon who is in the house of God. We need to cry out to God on behalf of our nation and leadership. Pray to our good God in Heaven. Serious prays that line up with the Will of God and touches the heart of God and moves the hand of God. 2 Chronicles 7:20 goes on to say, “But if you turn away and forsake My statutes and My commandments which I have set before you, and go and serve other gods and worship them, then I will uproot you from My land which I have given you, and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight and I will make it a proverb and a byword among all peoples.” That was a warning and a promise, and that could happen here in America.

James 2:12 “So, speak and so act as those who are to be judged by the law of liberty.

The Christian church can impact the culture in this day and age in which we live. They say that there are no Atheists in a battlefield foxhole. People who never think twice about church or God flock to churches during nature and manmade disasters. We have a worldwide pandemic now. Jesus never told us to retreat from ministering the gospel. He commanded us to charge into the darkness of sin and unbelief, head-on into the mission field with the Good News. That salt and light of the gospel starts with your family, your friends, your neighbors, acquaintances and co-workers. Stand up in the land of Liberty with righteousness and truth. The mission field is at the end of our driveway.

In Christ, Brian
