Today, I received a letter from the president of
Illustra Media, Jack Dabner with a message explaining why they produce these
wonderful "faith-based" nature documentaries as their ministry and
vocation for the Lord. He writes: "While opinions about our worldview will
continue to spark lively debate, I've always found it interesting that the
response to one facet of our film-making has remained remarkably
constant. Both our harshest critics and our most avid supporters have
recognized that we pour an enormous amount of effort into creating
documentaries that embody high production values (specifically, photography,
animation, music, editing and writing). It is very important to us, and the
reason becomes more obvious every day. We are engaged in a philosophical war. A
battle for human hearts and minds. As a ministry, we at Illustra Media are
committed to presenting the most important truth in the universe: there is a God who created
everything that exists, and He cares deeply about our eternal destinies.
There are many who oppose this truth, including some of the most gifted and
technically proficient film-makers in the world.
Job 38:1-7 Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said: “Who is this that
obscures my plans with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question
you, and
you shall answer me. “Where
were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if
you understand. Who
marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it? On what were its footings set, or who laid its cornerstone— while
the morning stars sang together and all
the angels shouted for joy?
Let me explain. The majority of science and
wildlife documentaries (those that are reaching the largest audiences) are
often based upon the theory of Darwinian evolution and the belief
that every living organism is the product of blind, undirected
evolutionary processes. Within such parameters, there is no need for God.
National Geographic, the BBC, and the Discovery Channel virtually
"own" the science/nature film genre. Their work is technically
brilliant, featuring spectacular photography, innovative animation, and
outstanding music. These documentaries are powerful vehicles that have
touched millions of lives with a false and dangerous conclusion about the
origin of life. Much of this impact is the result of effective presentation –
not scientific facts. “any film that looks and sounds good must be true …
right? Recently, a friend shared a personal experience that hammered home the
consequences of this unfortunate reasoning. My friend had been asked to speak
to a man who had renounced his life-long faith in God. His rejection was
triggered by a BBC documentary on recent discoveries in the fossil record that
purportedly confirmed the evolution of human beings from apes … it all started
with a “well produced” science film he saw on television. The
atheistic evolutionists deceptively omit the evidence that undermine their anti-Creator
God theory to deceive the world.
Isaiah 45: For this is what the Lord says—he who created the
heavens, he is God;
he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited—he says: “I am the Lord, and there is no other.”
Dabner
continues:
“This story both saddens and motivates us at Illustra Media. If we are to
successfully respond to those who oppose our message, our films must
incorporate the highest professional standards. If they appear amateurish or
quickly thrown together, it is a terrible reflection on the truth we are
attempting to share. To ensure this doesn't happen, we pour thousands of
man-hours into each of our productions because we the quality of our
presentation plays a major role in the world’s perception of our message. We
are now several months into the production of “Living Waters: Intelligent
Design in the Oceans of the Earth. We’re very excited about the potential of
the new documentary. It’s loaded with more compelling evidence of Creator God’s
Intelligent Design - God’s invisible
qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being
understood from what has been made.
Wherever
our film crew are filming today, you can be sure they’re giving everything they
have to produce a documentary that will match up to the highest technical
standards you’ll see on PBS or Discovery Channel any night of the week … but
with a vastly different worldview.
Psalm 150:6 “Let everything that has
breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”
In Christ, Brian
