What's So Merry About Christmas?

Luke 2:8-14 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

The Sunday Sermon passage (above) drove the Congregation directly into “the meaning of the season”. The words of the angel of the Lord, with the glory of God shining the light from heaven, still brings good news of great joy to all people. The Savior of the world, the Messiah of God, the Lord Jesus the Christ was born. God incarnate (with skin on), Emmanuel, God among us. Redemption from the price of our sin and salvation from the penalty of eternal damnation had arrived from above. Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, and goodwill toward every man, woman and child. This is a holy day! God the Father sent God the Son to save us. This is the celebration and something to be truly merry about. Tell everyone that you see, Merry Christmas! And tell them what you are merry about Christmas. This is the Happy Holy Day that the world needs to know.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Merry Christmas, Brian

Thanks Anonymous for the Holiday thought. Great point on the "peace on earth" message, where the words do not match the actions. Being human is not the problem, it is the heart. Meaning, it's not a phyical problem, but mindful thinking and heart attitude. God created plants and animals, which co-existed in peace. God said that they were good. God saved two of every kind of animal in the Ark. God cares about every creatures that He creates. The bible tells us to care for the animals, not mis-treat them. Our Pastor tells us that there is enough crops produced each year to feed each individual int he world, but it does not reach them, due to currupt politics, greed and selfish ambition and sometimes hatred. This is what sin does. It is an enomous problem today. Just look at the amount of death you bring to light. Why?

You are right that people loss sight of truth, priorities, compassion, live issues in life, consequences of thoughts and actions, et cetera. We were not created to go though life aimlessly, but by the purposes of our Maker. Knowledge is a key. Much is hidden and your voice is needed as one "crying in the wilderness" of this world of thought and opinion.

I think that it is impoosible without Jesus Christ in our hearts to change. Thank you for your comments. Merry Christmas!

Oh I miss watching Charlie Brown and this evoked memories when I used to watch it with my child who was little then. But the meaning...Amen!

"God with us.." So unfathomable that He chose to come down to be with us and make His love known. He is truly LOVE. His greatest attribute. Blessings to you bro. Brian.
