Foundational Evidence - Part 3

Pastor Obie continues:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 tells us that “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” The Holy Spirit inspired the biblical writers to write what they wrote. What is written in the Bible is exactly what God wanted us to have.  If the Word of God is one of the foundational evidences of faith then we need to get to know it. We need to get back to biblical literacy. We need to know what the Bible says by reading it. studying it and meditating on it. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man. So, we need to interpret the Word of God rightly. You cannot interpret the Holy Scriptures any way that you see fit. That is how Cults get started and that is how people become false teachers, which Peter was trying to save the early church from. The misinterpretation of Scripture and false teachers is something we still have to be careful with today.

2 Peter 1:20-21 “knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

You have to know the Bible with God’s original inspired intention. The Bible was written for you, but it was not written to you. Now, here is what I mean by that. Hermeneutics is basically the methodology of interpretation of biblical text and the purpose of Hermeneutics is to bridge the gap between our minds and the original biblical writer’s minds, because they were the one’s originally inspired by God. So, we need to understand the proper historical context and literary context that the book was written it. There are 66 books with different literary genres. There is Historical text (which is descriptive), Moral Law (which are Prescriptive), Parables, Prophecies, Songs, Poetry, Wisdom, and there are Revelations. You need to read the Bible rightly and not take things out of context. It is not up to you to interpret the Bible anyway that you want. You have to read and study the Bible rightly; taking into account the literary context and be led by the Holy Spirit.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and
discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

There is a type of interpretation called the “anagogical” Interpretation and this is the Spirit-led revelation of Scripture. The Bible is alive and God will use this “living” Word to speak to you, to reveals things to you, and to change you. But, make no mistake, Scripture will never contradict or disagree with what it already says. We need to return to biblical literacy. Read the Bible. know what it says and let the Holy Spirit use it to speak to us. And then, we need to be obedient to do what it says. We must not only have biblical literacy, but biblical obedience as well.

Those are the two foundational evidences of the faith that the Apostle Peter presents; the personal witness of the saints and the prophetic Word fulfilled. Witness and the Word. In Court, after the witnesses have testified and after the evidence has been presented, the jury is required to make a decision and give a verdict. Today’s court is in session and you are the jury. The testimony and now it is time for you to cast a verdict. evidence is given and now it is time for you to make the decision and cast a verdict. Is Jesus Lord or not? Think hard and think clearly because the decision that you make will affect your life for the rest of eternity. It is ether “yes, Jesus is Lord God” or “no, Jesus is not Lord God”. And make no mistake, to be undecided is to be decided. To say: “I don’t know yet. I need more time. I’m undecided.” That, in and of itself, is a decision.

If Jesus is not your Lord, now is the time to decide. In the world that we live in today, with the turmoil, disease and death all around us, tomorrow is not promised and tomorrow may very well be your last day on earth. What are you going to say when you meet Jesus on the Great White Throne judgement in Heaven? I’m sorry. I was undecided.? You only have this life to put your trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. If you didn’t put your trust in Him in this life, what makes you think that you’d put your trust in Him in the next life? The time is now. Will you choose to make Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior of your life or not? The foundational evidence is here. Here is your chance to make your decision.

In Christ, Brian
