John 4:23 “But the hour
is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in
spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.”
(7) The Holy Spirit prompts us
to worship. The Spirit insights us to true worship in adoration of God through
Jesus. Dr. Timothy Ralston explains that
the Holy Spirit assumes that vital role in worship as the sign of God’s work
through Christ. The Spirit confirms God’s covenant relationship, a prerequisite
for acceptable worship. His presence creates the worship sanctuary, forming
that bounds of its community and unifying its members. By convicting of sin, He
ensures the integrity of the covenant worshipers and with His gifts He
strengths them to serve one another, which are evidence of “Spirit-filled”
worship. Without the Holy Spirit, neither God’s presence nor the validity of our
offering can be presumed. Only the presence of the Holy Spirit enables a
person, or an entire congregation, to respond to God as He desires and in ways
appropriate to His covenant. Is the Holy Spirit crucial to our worship?
Absolutely! Without Him, we cannot live the holy life that identifies us,
qualifies us, informs us and supports our kingdom work in Spirit and in truth.
Acts 1:8 “But
you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall
be witnesses to Me in
Jerusalem , and in all Judea and Samaria , and to the end of the earth.”
(8) The Holy
Spirit empowers us for witness with His power. Goods works are not enough; we
need power for His service and kingdom work to “make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you
– Matthew 28:19-20. Not to just empower
us, but to stir us spiritually to be a witness of Christ to which we have been
commissioned by the Lord.
John
14:26 “But
the Advocate, the
Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach
you all things and
will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
(9) The Holy Spirit enables us to understand and apply what is taught in
the Word of God. Not just read the meaningful words of the Holy Bible, but the
Holy Spirit opens our hearts, minds and souls to these sacred Scriptures, to be
truly desired and inspiring. Jeremiah
31:33
“But this is the covenant
that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on
their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” The Holy Spirit deep within
us and the Word of God deep within us.
Romans 8:11 “But if the Spirit of Him who raised
Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also
give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”
(10)
The Holy Spirit will give life to our mortal bodies. Dr. R.C. Sproul explains: Birth and rebirth. Both are
the result of the operation of the Holy Spirit. Just as nothing can live
biologically apart from the power of the Holy Spirit, so no man can come alive
to God apart from the Spirit’s work. To be “born again” is to experience a
second genesis. It is a new beginning, a fresh start in life. To be regenerated
does not mean that we are changed from a human being into a divine being. It
does mean that we are changed from spiritually dead human beings into
spiritually alive human beings. W. Criswell wrote: Without the presence of the
Spirit there is no conviction, no regeneration, no sanctification, no
cleansing, no acceptable works . . . Life
is in the quickening Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is positive
proof of the validation of the Holy Gospel. Give the Holy Spirit room in your
life and let Him pour out on your life today.
Your brother in Christ,
Pastor Herk
