Philippians 4:6-8 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Growing up in the 1960’s, the word “Peace” became very popular due to the 20 year conflict in Vietnam. The country seemed to flow seamlessly from one war to another – World War 2 to the Korean War to the Vietnam War. in constant danger. Peace signs were everywhere because people wanted freedom from war with another foreign nation and to live in physical peace and harmony. Don’t get me wrong.  Freedom from war and world harmony is a wonderful peace. But, the peace mentioned in Philippians 4:7 is the state of quiet or tranquility; peace to this troubled soul given by God, Christ and the Holy Spirit producing heavenly rest. It's freedom from fear.

The Prince of Peace, Jesus Christ, stated in John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Since the natural world cannot give supernatural peace from Heaven then this world does not understand this peace of God. In Galatians 5:22-23 the Apostle Paul explains that “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” It is Divine peace.

Romans 14:17 states, “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking [filled physically], but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit [filled spiritually]. I wish you this peace.

In Christ, Brian
