Survival of the Fittest

Genesis 1:1-5 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So, the evening and the morning were the first day.”

Just about everyone has heard the term, survival of the fittest. "Survival of the fittest" is a phrase that originated from Darwinian evolutionary theory as an Atheistic way of describing the mechanism of natural selection without an omnipotent Creator God. Survival of the fittest, the term made famous in the fifth edition (published in 1869) of “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life” by British naturalist Charles Darwin, which suggested that organisms best adjusted to their environment are the most successful in surviving and reproducing. Darwin borrowed the term from English sociologist and philosopher Herbert Spencer, who first used it in his 1864 book Principles of Biology. I’ve always found it interesting that the politically incorrect “Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life” portion of the title is almost always excluded in writings. Interesting that this is a charged issued still today. Why?

According to evolutionary “origin of life” theory, after nothing exploded and produced matter, life was spontaneously generated from non-life on earth by a series of accidents and that simple life form found a mate and, with no transitional fossil records, evolved over millions or billions of years in gradual changes and survival of the fittest to create every species in the air, seas and on the land masses of the planet. In reality it comes down to “survival of the survivor”. Darwinian Evolution is a fairytale theory of never observed and unverifiable “macro-evolution” producing new species based upon visible “micro-evolution” of existing species in an attempt to hijack Creation Science, explain away and reject Creator God, who we, the creator, are accountable to. Micro-biology revealed irreducible complexity with cells and the information strands within DNA killed the theory. It’s a matter of faith verses unbelief, nothing more. But the consequence of Darwinian evolution’s survival of the fittest has far-reaching effects of human society, like the notion of favored races and every man for himself.

Matthew 22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

In a time of a worldwide pandemic viral outbreak, we could easily start seeing a “survival of the fittest” mentality erupt and be exposed. When times get tough, do the tough get going, trust in God and assist each other get through and protect the most vulnerable, or do they eliminate the competition to protect ourselves and our way of life in a fallen and material world? Everyone is experiencing “quarantine fatigue” from shut in and close down orders in order to flatten the curve on the COVID-19 illness and death impact. The mental, social and economic impact was catastrophic. Impatience to return to normalcy has resulted in over-aggressive reopening, accelerated regathering’s and abandonment of physical distancing which is causing the virus infestation outbreak to spike back up in devastating and tragic numbers. Sin is the real problem. We are all part of the human race that God created.

Where is the balanced, safe and godly mindset and approach today? Pray and trust God with life, trust Jesus Christ with your eternal life, and trust the Holy Spirit to lead your life in paths of righteousness through our valleys of the shadow of death in this lost and dying world. Don’t just survive; live. Love God, love your neighbor as yourself and thrive.

In Christ, Brian
