Psalm 119:9-11 “How can a young man keep his way pure? By
guarding it according to your Word. With my whole heart I seek you, let me not
wander from your commandments. I have stored up your Word in my heart, that I
might not sin against you.”
Continuing on this short topical study that I’ve been
going through; God’s moral law is found on the consciences of all people
because all are created by God with it programed upon their hearts. Along with
the Mosaic written law, these Laws of God restrain sinners, keeping them from
being as bad as they could possibly be. They also reveal our sin, pointing out
our need for the righteousness of Jesus Christ in order to be justified before our
holy and just Almighty Creator Father God. But, there remains one more important
use of God’s Law. The Law of God is a guide to what pleases God, as direction
for walking in holiness, avoiding sinning and displeasing God.
In order not to sin against the Lord, we must know what
pleases and displeases Him, and the way to know such things is to be so thoroughly
familiar with His Law that it is part of our very being, controlled by the law
in the heart as our core personal identity and action as we walk in the Spirit
daily. Within our process of sanctification and growing and maturing in faith),
the law is an ongoing guidance. The Lord Jesus explained that not even the
smallest part of god’s Law will pass away. The moral law points finally to the
new creation when obeying God will be second nature, so as long as sin abides
and we fall short, we must have moral law to guide us.
The lesson states that, although true believers are not
under the law as a covenant of works to be therefore justified or condemned,
yet it is of great use to them, as well as to others, in that, as a rule of
life informing them of the will of God. Creator God established what is right
and wrong in His eyes. The Law of God corrects our misunderstandings of right
and wrong. It helps us understand that God pleasing good works include both the
right action and motivation. It helps us discern the right way to go when we
must make decisions, that we may say: “No, that would be the wrong thing to say
or do.” It is God’s good gift to equip us for pleasing Him in all that we
think, do, say, love, and believe.
Ultimately, lovingly seeking to know and to do God’s Law
in gratitude for our forgiveness, redemption, salvation and eternal life as an
obedient child of God and citizen of heaven.
Blessed in Christ.
