The Tide of Compromise – Part Two

Romans 12:18 “If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”

Continuing, Pastor Obie message on “Spiritual Compromise: Three ways how to live uncompromisingly are (1) Repent by changing your thoughts, actions and attitude. Christians are repentant sinners saved by grace, so accept people but do not agree or accept any sin against God and His holy Word. Love the sinner, but hate the sin. Then, realign your life to align your thoughts, words, deeds(actions) and heart attitude towards the Lord, your God. Remember that God is in the business of making things new. Revelation 21:5 says, He who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Change your “bad’ habits and ungodly practices by repenting,

(2) Keep your bearings by fixing your eyes upon Jesus. Galatians 5:16, 25 tells us, “But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. It is important to always have a solid point of reference as a target to keep moving towards. That way, as we start to drift either way, we can make the correction to stay on course. In our spiritual lives that leads our physical lives, the Lord Jesus is our solid point of reference. Like in Matthew 14:29-30, when Jesus said “come. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”, when we take our heart’s and mind’s eye off Jesus, we begin to sink. Do not look to the sides, but keep your eyes upon Jesus as the reference for where to go and what to do, then make corrections to stay upon the straight and narrow path as necessary.

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”

(2) Consistently connect to Christ by meditating on the Word of God. Kingdoms come and kingdoms go, but the Word of god never ceases or fails. The Christian religion is the only survivor of the Pergamum polytheistic culture, because what God says in His holy Word is true and truth. The Federal government is trained to spot counterfeit currency by studying the genuine authentic bills and knowing every inch, so that when a forgery appears, they can identify the phony Reserve Note from a mile away. The same is true for Holy Scripture. By reading, studying and meditating upon the Bible, we will recognize and spot spurious doctrine immediately and reject it. In this day and age, the Bible can be accessed almost anywhere and at any time, on any topic. It is literally at our fingertips now.

1 Timothy 4:4-6 “For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving; for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed.”

(3) Praying. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing.” Prayer is simply communicating in a personal conversation with God. (4) Do this spiritual journey with others by meeting together at church, small group home studies, and neutral locations in between in order to grow and mature in your spiritual walk. King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 4:12 “Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him. And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” Do this life together.

Finally, stand for truth without compromise. Drop an anchor in the holy Word, Will and Way of God. No matter what new trend comes down the turnpike, no matter what is voted and passed into law, and no matter what the Supreme Court decides what is legalized, the real question is: “Who is Lord?”. Desire the blessings of God, not the temporal pleasures of sin that led ultimately to wrath and death. Remember that you are either padding forward or being pulled backwards by the tide of compromise. Get back to the truth in the Word of God and stand firm. It will revolutionize our culture.

In Christ, Brian
