Our God-Given Personality

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”

Last Sunday, our church concluded the Sermon series “Making your mark in the kingdom of Heaven.” Pastor Obie recapped that we have been shaped with a purpose and for a purpose. We have our spiritual gifts, our heart, our abilities, our personalities and our experiences to use in marking that mark in this time and place in history, for Christ’s sake. When we better understand our spiritual gifts, then we learn how to use them for God’s kingdom. We are His masterpiece, equipped to do good works. Each of us have been crafted by God and everyone was made to serve others in kingdom ministry.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks."

The four different attributes of our life to assist us are (1) heart, (2) soul, (3) mind, and (4) strength. These attributes match with our four actions of (1) talking, (2) having feelings, (3) intellectual thoughts and (4) doing, using our individual personalities. The world needs great communicators. What is in your heart comes out of your mouth. The love of God flows out of our mouth. Have a heart-to-hear conversation with others about the gospel of Jesus Christ. Feelings are real, but they are not always “right”. Use your God-given wisdom for guidance to bless in help and healing. Walk in the Spirit and do not be swayed by emotions. Be sure that your words do not just stay words, but turn into godly actions.

Romans 12:9 “Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”

The 1828 Webster’s Dictionary defines the word “Personality” as: That which constitutes an individual a distinct person, or that which constitutes individuality. The personality of an intelligent being extends itself beyond present existence to what is past, only by consciousness. But, Pastor Obie asks: “Where does our individual personality suit us best to service?” He states that “Heart” people are gifted talkers. Their purpose in the body of Christ is to communicate. “Soul” people are gifted feelers. The purpose in the kingdom is being compassionate. Feelers are healers with their caring, because they choose to love. “Mind” people are thinkers. Their purpose is to bring consideration. Over-thinking stifles action. Innovators and creators need to strengthen their minds by using their intellect. Doubt your doubts of God. “strength” people are doers. Their purpose is to bring contribution through action. They get dreams out into goals. The proof is in the pudding and you only believe what you actually do. They are activist that move holy, pleasing and acceptable to God things forward. Do not be too busy to miss that busyness can distract us from what we should be doing. Free up time to plan and prioritize; not produce.

Focus on the things that matter the most. Love without pride and lift others up.  Be a people-person.

In Christ, Brian
