Michael continues that the
Founding Fathers did not espouse the idea of "freedom from
religion." There is no independence “from” our Almighty, Sovereign Creator
Father God; Secular Humanism is a rebellion and rejection of our Maker. There
is only dependence on God. The idea of "separation of church and
state" was to ensure that the people would have the right to worship God
"according to the dictates of their own hearts" without interference
from government. Congress shall make no
law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise
thereof. This "establishment" clause prevented Government
leaders from claiming that they were representatives of both the government and
a "national Church." The Founders did not want American
government to become a reflection of "the divine right of earthly kings"
where the King claimed that he could dictate to the people as God's instrument
on earth.
In
order for free men to worship God according to the dictates of their own
hearts, the Founding Fathers knew that the citizens needed to be able to read
and understand the scriptures for themselves. They believed that firm
reliance upon Divine Providence according to His Word is the source of the
ideal of virtue. Self control or "temperance" according to Scripture
was the way to ensure a system of self government. Only virtuous men and
women could govern themselves. Government of
the people, by the people, and for the people will only work when good men
and women; virtuous and righteous people, govern themselves according to the
"spirit" of the law and not by the "letter" of the
law. For the law of the spirit after the inward man hath made me free from
(letter of) the law of sin and death
Romans
8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in
Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
As
US President Abraham Lincoln said in the Gettysburg address, “We are gathered today upon a great field of
battle to determine if a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the
proposition that all men are created equal can long endure.” Today, we are
in the midst of a battle (a second Civil War) against a godless secularist
culture. As our nation was sorely tested during the first Civil War, in
today's battle for the hearts and minds of America, men and women of God must
be bold to uphold the truth of the Word of God. As Jesus died to make men and
women holy, we must live to make them free.
Noah
warned the people about the impending flood. He preached to them the “Way
of Salvation”. For more than a hundred years Noah prayed, but the people
went about their godless normal, daily business. When the flood came, the
people turned their backs on the Way of Salvation and perished in the
flood. However, God always works with His remnant. The remnant is
where the seeds of the future are. Eight was all God needed to replenish the
earth. With God, the minority is the majority.
Romans
1: 18-20 “The wrath of God is revealed from heaven
against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in
unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them;
for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from
the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that
are made, even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse.”
Let's continue and complete Michael's message on dependance upon God in the next post.
In Christ, Brian
