The Steadfast Love of God

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Steadfast is defined as Fast fixed; firmly fixed or established; Constant; resolute; not fickle or wavering; Steady. The Bible teaches that eternal God is loving and merciful and gracious. The very nature of God is love and mercy, by which His grace flows always and forever. But, God is “holy”, “just” and “pure”, so therefore must punish sin. God, in His infinite wisdom devised the solution in His “Plan of Salvation”. God solved our sin problem in the person of Jesus Christ.

John 3:14-18 “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

Jesus Christ is God the Son, the second person of the Trinity and Creator of the heaven, earth and the universe. He died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to purchase a place in heaven for us. God has laid to account of Christ our guilt, our sin – sin which God hates. God has laid it all upon Christ. Christ bore our sins. When He died, Jesus was buried in the grave three days; but He rose from the dead and went to heaven to prepare a place for us.

Ephesians 2:1-8 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.”

By the steadfast love of God, now He offers heaven – eternal life - to us as a gift. And this gift is received by faith. By His grace, He freely offers to give us this gift of heaven. We receive this gift by true faith – trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life.

In Christ, Brian
