We
just got back from our 40th Anniversary Cruise from Los Angeles Harbor along
the Pacific Coastline to the Mexican Riviera. One of the issues that you deal
with when you leave the country is the “exchange rate” on your money from
American dollars to currency of the nation that you are visiting. We also are
familiar with the “Barter System” where we can exchange something that we have
for something that someone else owes as a trade. But, in reality, nothing on
earth can compare to divine exchange made by Jesus Christ for the salvation of
the world, where our only participation is accepting the exchange.
Matthew
16:26 “For what profit is
it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a
man give in exchange for his soul?”
Because
the penalty earned and deserved for sin is eternal death and separation from
God. We cannot save ourselves, so God send a Savior who would exchange our sin
for His sinless righteousness, exchange His forgiveness and peace for God’s
wrath towards our sin, exchange eternal life for eternal damnation. It is given
by the mercy and grace of God, and received by us in faith.
In
Christ, Brian
