God’s Dream for our Life

Exodus 19:5-6 “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.”

Last Sunday, Pastor Kyle continued his sermon series through the book of Genesis. He reminded us that dreams can become unsettled when obstacles come in life, especially when our dreams and ideas of what we want are not God’s dreams and ideas for us and what He wants for us. God has given us His living Word in the pages of Holy Scripture – the Bible. If we achieve our wildest dreams and are not in alignment with the Word of God, then we failed. Are our dreams, ideas and goals led by the Holy Spirit within us? God wants us to have dreams and desires, but under obedience of the Lord. Sometimes in life, because of circumstances, we have to make an educated decision for the, seemingly, greater good. But, is the promises of Almighty God at sake?

Deuteronomy 11:1 “Love the Lord your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.”

God’s dream for our life is full obedience to, and worship of, God. When you live a lie, the harder and harder it is to maintain. Lies, even to self, will always cost us in the long run. Kyle gave us five D’s that every dream endures. (1) Decisions – In making decisions there is an opportunity to be up front or be deceptive, but only the truth shall set you free. (2) Delays and detours – it is incredibly hard to understand. Sometimes God says “yes”, sometimes “no” and sometimes “wait”. (3) Difficulties – If you are a Follower of God, then you will experience them. Part of every God-sized dream has this element to train us up and mature us. But, God’s promises will endure. (4) Dead Ends - Your dreams will encounter moments where they hit dead-ends. But, maybe, God is just changing our direction. Ask God if this is a wall that He has put up to stop you. (5) Deliverance – We give as a response to our deliverance from sin and death through salvation. How can we ever repay Him for our deliverance? How are we going to respond when God comes through for us? How are we going to live?

Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

The key question is: How will I respond at each step in my life? We cannot control what phase of our life we are at, but we can control our obedience to God. We have a God that delivers. Live for God; not what we are getting, but what we already got from sovereign God, our heavenly Father. Praise where He has got you today and enjoy the love, hope, faith, joy and peace for being a sanctified child of God.

In Christ, Brian
