Abounding in faith with Thanksgiving

Colossians 2:6-7 “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”

With “all hallowed eve” (aka Halloween) and “all saints day” behind us now, we turn our sights on the great Christian holy day (holiday) of “Thanksgiving”. A day to proclaim thanks to God were central themes from the American Pilgrims of Plymouth Plantation celebration to proclamations by our first President of these United States of America Founding Father George Washington, to the establishment of our modern day Thanksgiving national holiday event by our great 16th President Abraham Lincoln.

Colossians details the natural response of the born again Christian, saved from eternal punishment  by turning from sin and accepting the merciful free gift of God of forgiveness, salvation, redemption and eternal life as children of God in the kingdom of Heaven. We are uprooted from the old sinful life, focused on self, that was hostile with the God and built a foundation on the solid rock of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, living for Him and His blessed and holy Word, Will and Way.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Our life is now establish in faith, which is a gift of God also. A total surrender of “our way” and a total assurance, belief, confidence, dedication, devotion, trust and reliance in the Almighty Creator, our heavenly Father God. Therefore, we are eternally grateful and abounding in thanksgiving and thanks living.

In Christ, Brian
