Matthew
22:36-40 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the
Law?” Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with
all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first
and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as
yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these
two commandments.”
Wikipedia states that the love of Christ is a central element of Christian belief
and theology. It refers both to the love of Jesus Christ for
humanity, and to the love of Christians for Christ. Let’s look at some Bible
verses that explain this love of God.
Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know
therefore that the Lord your
God is God; he
is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a
thousand generations of
those who love him and keep his commandments."
John 3:15-17
“That everyone who
believes may have eternal life in him. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send
his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Romans 8:38-39 “For I am
convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons neither the
present nor the future, nor
any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation,
will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in
Christ Jesus our Lord."
1 Corinthians 8:2-3 “Those who
think they know something do
not yet know as they ought to know. But
whoever loves God is known by God.”
1 John 2:4-5a Whoever
says, “I know him,” but
does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly
made complete in them.”
1 John 3:1 “See what
great love the
Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is
what we are!”

John 4:8-16 "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God
is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and
only Son into
the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his
Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins, Dear friends, since God so
loved us, we
also ought to love one another. No one has
ever seen God; but
if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. This
is how we know that
we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the
Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If
anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in
them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God
is love. Whoever
lives in love lives in God, and God in them."
1 John 4:19 “We love
because he first loved us."
In
Christ, Brian
