Wise Men Still Seek Him

Matthew 2:11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The other week, we were at our son and daughter-in-laws house for a big turkey dinner and as we were leaving, they gave us a parting gift of a lighted etched glass block of the three wise men on camels with the words: “Wise Men Still Seek Him” as a Christmas home decoration this year. You have probably heard this yuletide message or seen it written, as the world focuses on the birth of the “Savior of the world” in this glorious season of the Lord’s first coming. The meaning is that wise men and women today seek the Lord. Do you seek the Lord? Is that the burning ambition of your heart and life?

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

An article about these three wise men of the Bible that seeked Jesus at His birth read: Think about these men from the east. Do you know where “the east” was? They’re talking about Babylon; three hundred miles across Syrian Desert, distance and difficulty. Now, Christmas cards picture them coming on camels. I don’t know how they came, but I know how they didn’t come…by airplane, bus, automobile, or motorcycle. I know where they didn’t stay. They didn’t stay in the Holiday Inn. There were no convenience or department stores along the way either. And they came in spite of danger. It was the time of King Herod, insane with jealousy and rage, who had had his own wife and three sons murdered. These men in the face of that danger said, “We have come to seek Jesus Christ.” Wise men will seek Him in spite of distance, danger and difficulty. I live just 45 miles from the recent San Bernardino terrorist mass shooting. There is a warning here that a shopping Mall during the busy Christmas shopping now is the next target. We live in a dangerous and troubling time in history. We need the peace of Christ.

Jeremiah 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I picked up a glass Nativity scene at a swap meet/flea market in Arizona last week, which is now on display on my desk at work and it reminds me of the arrival of “God among us” – Emmanuel, but also the three wise men that sought Him (representing us). Wise men who seek Him will see Him – Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Wise men still seek Him. When the three wise men came into the manger, they fell down and worshiped Him – God incarnate, Lord of all, the Savior of the world. It’s worth seeking Him because, when you seek Him, you will find Him. They searched, found the Lord and saw Him. The world needs Christ. Seek Him.

Shalom, Brian
