If Christ Had Not Come

Romans 8:38-39 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

I really enjoy the daily devotional reading that are available today from many Christians sources. They really cause me to dig down deep below the superficial level of thought towards loving God and loving others based upon the holy Word. Lately, I read one thought-provoking short reading that stated that if Christ had not come, there would be no sure hope of eternal life. Only Jesus can give the blessed assurance of everlasting life in heaven.

1 John 5:11-13 tells us “that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.” Not just know of Jesus, but know Him, repenting of our sin, believing in the gospel of salvation and trusting in Jesus Christ alone for eternal life. Know Jesus and know life. No Jesus and no life. Before the cure, healing cannot begin.

If Christ had not come, then the dark and dank tomb would be the end of each and all. There would be no hope beyond the grave. If Christ had not come, you and I would look down into that six-foot deep hole and see your future. Jesus brought certainty. John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” Only in Christ is there the assurance and certainty of everlasting life. Amazingly to say, because of His grace, in Jesus Christ, God is willing to wash away our sins, making us whiter than snow in purity, to cleanse use in the atoning blood of our Lord, and to accept us as His children, now and forevermore.

Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

What a magnificent promise that is. Hallelujah!

In Christ, Brian
