Acts 2:1-5 And when the
day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a
rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as
of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and
began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every
nation under heaven.
Continuing
in our Sunday sermon series through the book of Acts, Pastor Kyle used the
example of when our parents and grandparents created handmade dinners and
deserts made “from scratch” or “by taste”, they were really working from a
recipe that they knew by heart. Today, we might wonder what it would take to
have what great spiritual leader have, but they also practice their faith from
what they know in their heart also. You have probably heard the old saying that
“For many it is the difference between Heaven and Hell is eighteen inches.”
There is a great difference between head-knowledge and heart-knowledge. There
are key ingredients to the great works of God Jesus is in the heart of everyone
who calls Him Lord.
Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass,
that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Pentecost
was a prominent feast in the calendar of ancient Israel
celebrating the giving of the Law on Sinai, celebrated in Israel 50 days
after Passover. When the Holy Spirit was given, Pentecost was the birth of the
church. One of the key ingredients to the great works of God found on that
first Pentecost was that Christians gathered in prayer. Prayer is like the
dimmer-switch of God in that the more prayer we exercise the more spiritual
light we have in our life, and the less prayer we experience in our life, the
less light we have in our life. There is tremendous power when the people of
God pray together. It is the wind and the fire of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
1 Corinthians 15:13-14 “If there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ
is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and
your faith is also empty.”
Another key
is Christians from all walks of life, who stand on the power of the
resurrection. There is a secular humanistic moral of not wanting to hurt
people’s feelings, but being in hell because no one told then about the Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ will eternally hurt their feelings. The power of the
resurrection is the secret of life and life eternal. If Christ didn’t die for
our sins, rose from the dead (defeating sin and death) and ascended to the
right hand of the Father, then our faith is in useless. But, it is true and
Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Jesus’ resurrection was prophesied,
predicted and really happened. Heaven is diverse/ all need salvation and
sanctification in Christ.
We'll continue Pastor Kyle great message tomorrow.
In Christ, Brian
