Psalm 42:1-2 “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? "
Water
is the largest single component of the human body, including our brain, and it
is essential for life. Generally speaking, people can only survive about a week
without water. To replenish is life-sustaining element in our bodies, we naturally
have the physical thirst-urge to drink, and develop an insatiable survival craving for water over an
extended period of time and in hot/dry environments. The body and mind quickly begin to malfunction without H2O.
John 7:37 “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried
out, saying, “If
anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.”
We can picture in our mind
that hot, thirsty deer panting for the cool water of the babbling brook. We
understand this thirst, and this strong and
eager desire
is also expressed in our strong and eager spiritual soul thirst for God and His
reign in our life daily. It's as natural as our thirst for water every day, when the Lord is the central desire of our heart.
