The Political Correctness of this World


Secularism and the decline of the culture was the topic of a recent symposium at Biola University.  Featured speakers were Ravi Zacharias, a Christian Apologist and Dennis Prager, a prominent Jew who embraces the ideals of America's founding fathers. Read the Suicide of Christianity in America by LaMay.  This book emphasizes America's decline resulting from forsaking her Christian virtues.  According to Lincoln, no foreign power could defeat America...  America's demise would not come from the mighty hand of a foreign despot,  rather her death could be inflicted only by her own hand.  The threat to the union is not from without but from within. Jesus said that there would be gnashing of teeth outside of the door during the last days.

American Christianity is weakening.  In Matthew 13, Jesus spoke a parable about the Sower who went out and sowed good seed in his field.  While the workers were asleep, an enemy came into the field and planted weeds among the wheat.  The master did not send workers into the field to pull weeds, rather he called his workers to gather in the harvest.  Leave the separation of the wheat from the weeds to the master after the harvest.  He will separate the wheat from the weeds and the grain from the chaff.


God has called us to live among the weeds and the chaff of this world.  As God's harvest, our mission is to plant and to water so that God can give the increase. God did not call us to be influenced by the world but rather to influence the world.  The greatness of America is that our founders valued the truth of the Word of God.  The United States was not founded like other nations on a common heritage or a common geographic land area.  Rather it was founded upon virtuous ideals based on scripture.  The founders understood that good men whom God called to defend their God-given unalienable rights would stand in the gap to uphold the virtues of these United States as one nation under God. They understood that laws were not for the righteous but for the unlawful.  They believed that righteous men in whom the spirit of The Lord is, could "stand in the gap" to bless the nation in spite of the unbelieving lawlessness of ungodly men.  

The distinction of the United States was that this "experiment of self-government" was founded on the ideal that free men would govern themselves according to unalienable God given rights.  According to the Declaration of Independence, We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (virtue.)  To these ends the signers of the Declaration pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor in firm reliance upon almighty God.

The Founders did not espouse the idea of "freedom from religion."  The idea of "separation of church and state" was to ensure that the people would have the right to worship God "according to the dictates of their own hearts."  Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.  This "establishment" clause prevented Government leaders from claiming that they were representatives of both the government and a "national Church."  The founders did not want American government to become a reflection of "the divine right of Kings" where the King claimed that he could dictate to the people as God's instrument on earth. In order for free men to worship God according to the dictates of their own hearts, the founders knew that the citizens needed to be able to read and understand the Holy Scriptures for themselves.  They believed that firm reliance upon Divine Providence according to His Word is the source of the ideal of virtue.  Self control or "temperance" according to scripture was the way to ensure a system of self government.  Only virtuous men could govern themselves. What is the "Fourth of July" in America all about?

Government of the people, by the people, and for the people will only work when good men; virtuous and righteous men, govern themselves according to the "spirit" of the law and not  by the "letter" of the law.  For the law of the spirit after the inward man hath made me free from (letter of) the law of sin and death. As Lincoln said in the Gettysburg address, we are gathered today upon a great field of battle to determine if a nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal can long endure.  Today, we are in the midst of a battle against a godless secularist culture.  As our nation was sorely tested during the civil war, in today's battle for the hearts and minds of America, men of God must be bold to uphold the truth of the Word of God.  As Jesus died to make men holy, we must live to make men free.

Noah warned the people about the impending flood.  He preached to them the way of salvation.  For more than a hundred years Noah prayed, but the people went about their normal godless business.  When the flood came, the people turned their backs on the way of salvation and perished in the flood.  However, God always works with his remnant.  The remnant is where the seeds are.  Eight was all God needed to replenish the earth.  With God the minority is the majority.

Romans 1: 18-20  The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead so that they are without excuse.

The politics of "socialism" in the guise of "equality" is becoming politically correct.  When the communist socialists took over Russia, they first killed all the wealthy and influential and free-thinking people.  The Communists' greatest opponents were those who stood for the values of virtue. The communists killed them all in order to take over the government in the name of "equality for the people."  They killed off the noble and most influential... the most virtuous people in the communities. In our politically correct climate, conservative God-fearing men are the enemy of the doctrine of socialism/ secularism.  The politically correct actively marginalize, shut down, and ridicule the values and virtues of men of God committed to the Word of God.

Jesus came to make new men out of old men of the flesh.  He came not to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved.  God is still in control.  It's not about quantity, its about quality:  those in whom the spirit of The Lord is.  He came not to polish our flesh, our earthen vessel.  For we have this treasure (the spirit) in an earthen vessel (our carnal body) that the excellency of the power may be of God and not of us.

It's not about the size of the dog in the fight, rather it's about the size of the fight in the dog.  Our power is of the Spirit of God.  For it is God that worketh in us to will and to do of his good pleasure. It's easy to become swept up and swept away by the political correctness of this world:  To become "victims" and to passively embrace the victim mentality prevalent in the culture.  However, God called us to actively resist the devil.  Therefore, stand putting on the whole armor of God that we may be able to withstand in the evil day and having done all to stand.

We need not be discouraged about the affairs of  this world and the secularism of our culture.  We need not be disappointed about the results of man's elections.  Rather we rejoice that we are the results of God's election.  Men of God are the elect of God.  Choose ye this day whom ye will serve.  As for me and my house we will serve The Lord (Joshua 24:15). My prayer is not that God is on my side, rather my prayer is that I am on God's side.  Not my will, but thine be done...
