Veritology – What is Truth? (Part 2)

We pick up this study of What is Truth?, from where we left off yesterday. Jesus promised to send us the indwelling "Holy Spirit" to to guide us in our Christian walk. Look what the Lord said that His name was:

John 14:15-17 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of Truth.”

John 16:13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.”

Lies, the antithesis of truth, take human hearts and minds captive by the power of deception.

John 8:31-32 & 34Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.  And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-13 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders,  and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.  Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness. But we ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth.”

The 1828 edition of Webster’s Dictionary, defines “truth” as “Conformity to fact or reality; exact accordance with that which is, or has been, or shall be. The truth of history constitutes its whole value. We rely on the truth of the scriptural prophecies.
“Reality” is that which is perceived and defined by God, not man. Our culture is not only filled with lies but is actually heading in the direction of social insanity. “Insanity” is defined as the loss of touch with reality. Believing the lie and acting upon it.

Romans 1:18 & 25For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

John 4:24God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

As a result, Pilate’s query—“What is truth?”—is the most important question facing our society today. Focus on the Family’s Dr. Del Tackett challenged us with this all-important question: Do you really believe that what you believe is really real? Truth is reality.

John 17:17Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

In Christ, Brian

Hi Brian,
Guess what I have on my windowsill? A note to check out The Truth Focus! My sister and I were talking about this just last week and she was urging me to look it up and do the study. :) I would say from reading this post and yesterday's post that this would be confirmation for me.

It's a good question. What is truth? I'm looking forward to reading your insights on The Truth Focus.

Blessings,

Thank you Child of God for writing. This study on the foundations of the Christian faith both teach and challenge the child of God to ask the exploratory questions and examine what we believe and why, deepening our faith by seeking and knowing God more. It's like thirsting for and drinking in the knowledge of our sovereign Father God and immediately experiencing His presence and applying the reality of His truth in our life and world. It's joyfully exciting and contentedly peaceful at the same time, trusting in, depending on and standing firm upon His omniscience, omnipotence, and omnipresence of the Almighty.
