Movie Ministry

1 Corinthians 6:11Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

Our small group home Bible Study group decided to continue to meet together over the traditional summer break, by getting together every other week rather than weekend and support Pastor’s Midweek “all-church” sessions. Last week, we had one of our customary “Christian Movie nights” because we finished one study series and are about to start another new series. The movie that we watched was titled: “Hidden Secrets” Starring John Schneider (of Dukes of Hazard fame), David A.R. White and Tracy Melchior and featured a great song by Christian band “Building 429” Titled “The Space in Between”. It is story about close-knit friends who had drifted apart over the years coming back together for the funeral of one in the group and the impact that their friendships have on one another in the face of adversity and the burdens of past sins now forgiven in Christ as they follow the truth and reflect the life, light and love of Jesus.

Our group love this movie. The story-lines and character development were outstanding with plenty of humor and drama throughout while bringing to light the challenges, temptations and doubts and the world places in front of every Believers, while driving home the gospel message of “new life” in Christ and the solid foundation of the church (prayer, devotional time, worship, praise, charity and fellowship) to stand firm upon for life. We highly recommend this movie to you all for an enjoyable and uplifting experience. Movie ministry is a blessing.

Ephesians 5:2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.

In Christ, Brian

Brian, that getting together to watch movies as part of fellowship is so good! You know, in the UK it seems that church seems to be so traditional and Christians in America are so forward and progressive when it comes to worship and fellowship. Perhaps we need more of this here?

I also feel that many movies, even not particularly Christian movies, can teach us lessons about life and morality and so on. Even Monty Python's 'Life of Brian' has a message if you watch it; between the laughs that is! Yes I know it's cheeky and naughty, but so is some of the Old Testament! God has a sense of humour; didn't he create the duck billed platypus?!

It's so wonderful your group still meets during the 'unscheduled' time. And a movie night to boot! Glad you are able to spend time with friends. Watching media opens up opportunities to discuss the world & how we can point to Him. Happy Saturday! :)

Thanks for writing Tim. These Christian movie nights sure are a great ministry, in and of themselves. It seems to me that ever since Sherwood‌ Baptist‌ Church of Albany, Georgia produced and released the movie "Facing the Giants", many great Christian movies have been made. It is a fun and uplifting to watch them. A "movie night" occasionally, breaks up and provides a little variety in the Bible Study schedule. It is just a part of church life and there are more opportunities for fellowship in music, plays, picnics, sports, et cetera. But they are centered in loving God. I watch some movies at the theater that are not produced by Christian company also for entertainment, but do find myself analyzing the story through my Christian values. I see your point that we learn from them what the world thinks and how they operate, so I can understand and use that interpretation for walking a more informed Christian walk. Of course, there are some movies that a child of God has no business watching too. I've watched Monty Python decades ago and they were always good for a laugh. What was the message in "The Life of Brian"?

Hi Larri, It was the decision of the group to continue to meet over the summer. Some think that everyone needs a break, but not our group. We have now started our regular weekly small group Bible Study for the Fall. I have a nice collection of Christian movies and documentaries to show, in between study series. But, you are correct that we all end up discussing how the movie reflects the world today or what is missing in the "flick" that lacks the Christian gospel message. That drives us to speak the truth in love to this world. You are right, that we must point to the Lord and His salvation. Thank you for writing.
