Faith of the Nation

Jeremiah 3:21A cry is heard on the barren heights, the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel, because they have perverted their ways and have forgotten the Lord their God."

I always find it humorous that whenever you hear someone say; “separation of church and state”, it is someone saying that they don’t want the state to hear the church and never the church not wanting to hear the state. Let’s look at some quotes from our first Presidents of these United States and see what they thought.

The Father of our Country and First President George Washington: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great Pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and citizens.”

Our second President John Adams: "The Christian religion is, above all the religions that ever prevailed or existed in ancient or modern times, the religion of Wisdom, Virtue, Equity, and Humanity."

Our third President Thomas Jefferson: “No one sees with greater pleasure than myself the progress of reason in its advances towards rational Christianity, and my opinion is that if nothing had ever been added to what flowed purely from His lips, the whole world would at this day have been Christian. Had there never been a commentator, there never would have been an infidel.... I have little doubt that the whole of our country will soon be rallied to the unity of the Creator, and, I hope, to the pure doctrines of Jesus also.”

The father of the U.S. Constitution and fourth President - James Madison: “The belief in God all powerful wise and good, is so essential to the moral order of the world and to the happiness of man.”

Our fifth President James Monroe: When we view the blessings with which our country has been favored, those which we now enjoy, and the means which we possess of handing them down unimpaired to our latest posterity, our attention is irresistibly drawn to the source from whence they flow. Let us then, unite in offering our most grateful acknowledgments for these blessings to the Divine Author of All Good."

Our sixth President John Quincy Adams: "The hope of a Christian is inseparable from his faith. Whoever believes in the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures must hope that the religion of Jesus shall prevail throughout the earth.”

Our seventh President Andrew Jackson: “Our excellent constitution guarantees to every one freedom of religion, and charity tells us, and you know Charity is the real basis of all true religion, and charity says judge the tree by its fruit. All who profess Christianity, believe in a Savior and that by and through him we must be saved. We ought therefore to consider all good Christians, whose walk corresponds with their professions, be him Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Baptist, Methodist or Roman catholic.”

Our eighth President Martin Van Buren: “I only look to the gracious protection of the Divine Being whose strengthening support I humbly solicit, and whom I fervently pray to look down upon us all. May it be among the dispensations of His providence to bless our beloved country with honors and with length of days. May her ways be ways of pleasantness and all her paths be peace!"

Our ninth President William Henry Harrison: “I deem the present occasion sufficiently important and solemn to justify me in expressing to my fellow-citizens a profound reverence for the Christian religion and a thorough conviction that sound morals, religious liberty, and a just sense of religious responsibility are essentially connected with all true and lasting happiness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie.”

That’s just the first nine and it is obvious that none of these Presidents knew of any separation, along with other Founding Fathers like Benjamin Rush, John Jay, Thomas Paine, and Benjamin Franklin, so it must be someone else.

1 Corinthians 1:18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

Like our Founding Fathers and Presidents, let us give glory to God, shine the light of Christ and the love of God into this country, society and culture. Proclaim the gospel of salvation to all. God bless America. In God We Trust!
In Christ, Brian

Hi Brian,
One cannot separate religion from politics for religion is who a person is and it is the person's who run the government. If the people who are in government are loving and honouring God then God will be loving and honouring the country. Pretty simple and now when I look at the state of our countries I mourn for God is not the center. :(

Praying 2013 will be a point of returning to Father, Creator of all.

Happy New Year my brother. :) Be blessed.

Without knowing the Creator of the Universe, including everything that lives and has breath, how can one understand what life is about? God revealed in the holy pages of biblical Scripture is our solid foundation of Truth and the incarnation of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Lord, our our Way, our Truth and our life. These are the basis of the original American government (not pluralism, not atheism). All nations need to return to that fact. For it is God in heaven that ultimately reigns and rules, for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, forever and ever, Amen. Thank you for the great comment.
