Psalm 42:1-2 “As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul
for You, O God. My soul thirsts for
God, for the living God.”
I've heard that a person can not survive
long without water. Go any long period of time without this colorless,
odorless, and tasteless liquid and you shall thirst. We need water. We can
survive a longer period of time without food than water also. Our body mass is
made up of 70% water. Water is essential to physical life, but though water
makes up 70% of the earth’s surface, only 3% is fresh water. It’s no wonder
that the Psalmist chose the relationship between the tremendous physical thirst
of a panting deer for the crystal-clear fresh life-giving water of the cool
babbling brook as an emotional word picture for us to visualize and understand
our spiritual thirst by our soul for the living Lord God of Heaven and Earth in
our life. We, far too often, get caught up in the moment, distracted by the
cares of this world, that we can easily miss what is truly important and
lacking for our mind, will and emotions. Genuine satisfaction, happiness and
contentment comes from intimate communion with the Lord, as water to our
thirsty soul.
John
4:10-11 + 13-14 Jesus
answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a
drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You
have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that
living water?” Jesus answered and said
to her, “Whoever
drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of
the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall
give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting
life.”
It
all starts with the “living water” salvation from sin and death through Jesus
Christ unto everlasting life. But then this “living water” becomes a fountain
of water springing up and flowing out as the child of God works out their own
sanctification daily, as a pilgrimage, walking in the Spirit, growing and
maturing, thirsting to know the Lord more. Thirsting for the Lord’s holy Word,
Will and Way to quench our spiritual dehydration, as much as a parched deer pants after a refreshing drinking from
the shady brook. Obey your thirst.

Thanks for posting this refreshing taste of that water.

There is one thing about reaching those who have not hear about the "Good News' of Jesus Christ, but there is also another thing about not taking the Lord, our God, lightly and for granted. To bring to mind the great sacrifices that were made by our Heavenly Father and His only begotten Son to save us from our Sins and give us eteranal life. How mindful are we daily? How grateful are we really? Do we demonstrate our love and committment by our life following Him and His holy Word and Ways, because His will is our will? This is what I see as having a thirst for the Lord, like a deer that is dying of thirst longs water. May we all long for the Lord like that. Thanks for writing.
