What is the Purpose of Man? Part 1

Ecclesiastes 3:1 & 9-11 “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.”

I received a comment on my “From the Inside Out” Blog post that recommended me to a new A.W. Tozer book titled “The purpose of Man”, referring to mankind – both men & women. Since then the subject has risen several times, so I thought that it would be beneficial to ask you to comment on what you personally feel is the purpose of man. This is a question that everybody comes to ask sometime in their life about themselves: “What is my purpose?”, and whole books are written on the subject. But what do you feel is our purpose here (not personally, but corporately for all)… what is the chief end of man's life? I’d like to hear your gut response because this issue is a major factor in the actions and behavior of our culture and society.

Ecclesiastes 6:10-12 “Whatever one is, he has been named already, For it is known that he is man; And he cannot contend with Him who is mightier than he. Since there are many things that increase vanity, How is man the better? For who knows what is good for man in life, all the days of his vain life which he passes like a shadow? Who can tell a man what will happen after him under the sun?”

My next post shall discuss what I’ve been hearing and learned through this Christian walk. I believe that this foundation sets the entire structure of our house on either solid rock or shifting sand, and give direction to either Shalom (peace through purpose) or wandering in the desert. It’s vitally important to think and dwell upon this question and answer. Why on Earth are we here? What is the purpose of man? What do you think?

Psalm 20:4 “May He (the Lord) grant you according to your heart’s desire, And fulfill all your purpose.”

In Christ, Brian

That is the easiest of all questions in the whole world to answer, the purpose of man is to glory God and to enjoy Him forever. I Cor 10:31, in all that we do we are to magnify, make clearer and large the glorious nature of the living God.

If I wasn't found by Him, I wouldn't care for anything but do what I want...But knowing Him is a different story. Everything we do, we do for His glory, not to our benefits. We can't truly brag about anything because of what He does in us. We are made to worship the only One True God and while down here, we are to be His instruments in sharing the Good News so many more can be saved. Until He returns...Blessings.

Excellent comments and discussion Pastor Gregg and Sister Rosel. I love the comparison of heart desires "before " and "after" being found in Christ. Great points! Thank you for the blessing.

I think we all (believers or not) understand deep down that there is something more than our little three-score and ten in this life.

It is all about HIM. For whatever reason we are all (believers or not) put here for His purposes.
