Afraid of the Dark

John 11:9-10 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him the light.”

Our Pastor’s Sunday Sermon in the eleventh chapter of the Gospel of John, in his series on Positivity, Negativity & Jesus, focused on the fact that we “die by darkness, but live by light”. The darkness in sin and unbelief is truly bondage to the soul unto spiritual death through the glory of man, because the wages of sin is death, but Jesus Christ is in the business of raising the dead and saving souls. John 8:12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” Christ runs into the darkness of trespasses, inequities, and sin bringing liberty and forgiveness through His atoning death and resurrection for the glory of God. Jesus, the Son of God, is the Savior of the world.

Romans 6:23 “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” God does not forgive sin until the debt is paid. By His mercy & grace, God sent His Son to pay a debt that He did not owe, because we owed a debt that we could not pay for salvation when we believe and receive the free gift of eternal life. John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”

John 1:12-13 “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” By the blood of Jesus, we have been “set free”. Jesus is one with God and all that we need is found in our Savior & Lord. Those that live in darkness of unbelief are spiritually dead in their sin and shall not inherit the kingdom of God, but rejoice in the light of the salvation of your soul and walk in the light as He is in the light. But as Jesus came to seek and save the lost, as disciples and followers of our Lord we too must bring the light of the gospel into this lost and dying world. Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” As our heavenly Father, Creator God does not wish even one to perish in eternal damnation in hell, we too need not be afraid of the dark, but boldly proclaim the “good news” of salvation by faith, so those in darkness may walk into the light and find the foot of the cross waiting for all who repent, receive and believe in the finished work of Jesus Christ. It is not us, but Christ in us - God’s holy light.

Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light”. 1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

I will be working at the 2010 Harvest Crusade in Anaheim, California for the next three evenings, as an on field follow up ministry worker for those who make a commitment to Christ through a repentance of sin and profess of faith to the invitation. Please pray that the Holy Spirit work through me and that many come to a “saving” knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. For it is in His holy name that we ask these things.
Grace & peace, Brian

Well put Guate 2009. Jesus Christ is the source of our light that brings us out of the darkness of sin & unbelief in the world and into His Truth - John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”

Then that laight shines through us to the world in darkness to lead the way to the Lord at the foot of the cross. Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Given His light to be a light for others. Awesome point. Thank you.
