A Day That We Celebrate Love - February 14, 2009

Happy Valentine’s Day! A day that we celebrate “LOVE”. Where did it come from? Wikipedia says: “Saint Valentine (in Latin, Valentinus) is the name of several martyred saints of ancient Rome. The name "Valentine", derived from valens (worthy), was popular in late antiquity. Of the Saint Valentine, whose feast is on February 14, nothing is known except his name and that he was buried at the Via Flaminia north of Rome on February 14.”
Strange how they never taught us these facts while we were placing all those paper valentines and candy hearts in decorated lunch sacks of our classmates in Elementary School. I think that a priest was martyred (executed) for his love of, and faithfulness to, the Lord brings a great new light to this day that we celebrate. It’s all about love!
John 3:16a "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Matthew 22:36-40 "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

John 13:34 "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

John 15:1214 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.

1Corinthians 13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Galatians 5:22a But the fruit of the Spirit is love

“Be My Valentine”
